This page has been added to provide updates related to the Kansas City Public Schools accreditation, and other district and state issues that affect our schools and community.
The Missouri State Board of Education voted to classify the Kansas City Public Schools (KCPS) as “unaccredited” on September 20, 2011. The loss of accreditation went into effect on January 1, 2012. In addition, the Missouri Commissioner of Education stated that she will be working with the district to develop an intervention plan.
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has organized with the KCPS a Regional School Improvement Team (RSIT) will hear meet regularly to review information and respond to efforts that document progress toward district re-accreditation. RSIT met publicly for the first time on Feb. 23. Check out the link to the presentation slides.
Policy on Student Transfers to Accredited School Districts
Following is a link to the district’s transfer policy. At this time, transfer requests are not being considered as area school districts and the KCPS have not established a shared agreement on transfers. The district’s web site also provides a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) regarding transfers to neighboring Jackson County public school districts.
